Black Pepper Essential Oil

The King of Spice

Forget the sneeze: black pepper essential oil is dry, warm, and surprisingly refined. Steam-distilled from the sun-dried berries of Piper nigrum, it adds a spicy, woody kick to perfumery and diffuser blends that citrus and florals alone can never reach.

About Black Pepper Essential Oil

Black pepper essential oil is steam-distilled from the dried, unripe fruit of Piper nigrum, the same peppercorns ground at every dinner table. Distillation captures the volatile aromatics while leaving behind piperine, so the oil carries pepper's scent without its bite on the tongue.

On a scent strip it opens dry and spicy, then settles into warm, woody, faintly floral territory. Perfumers use it to add lift and intrigue to citrus colognes and to roughen up sweet florals. It blends handsomely with bergamot, frankincense, cedarwood, and rose.

At home, a drop or two warms up morning diffuser blends, brings a spicy accent to homemade candles and beard oils, and gives massage blends a gently warming, pepper-lodge character when properly diluted in a carrier oil.

The Distillation Journey

Harvest

Piper nigrum vines are picked for their unripe green peppercorns before the fruit turns black and dries.

Sorting

The freshly picked peppercorns are cleaned and sorted before they ever reach the still.

Distillation

Steam distillation pulls the volatile aromatics from the peppercorns, leaving pepper's sharp bite behind.

Lab Testing

Each finished batch is tested in the lab, with results published as a certificate of analysis.

Bottling

The tested oil is bottled and stored away from heat and light until your order ships.

See What's In The Bottle

Black pepper essential oil is distilled from a single named species, Piper nigrum, so its composition is simple enough that dilution or substitution with cheaper oils shows up clearly on a lab test.

The current batch's certificate of analysis is published right here on this site, so you can read the actual results for the oil you are about to order before you buy a bottle or a barrel.

Priced for Production Runs

Soap houses, candle studios, and perfumers rarely buy essential oils by the bottle. Once a formula is proven at small scale, they need the same dry, peppery character in volume, and they need it consistent from batch to batch. Our 5 lb, 25 lb, and 400 lb sizes are covered by the same published batch documentation as every 0.5 oz bottle.

Pepper Oil FAQ

How fast do orders ship?
Most orders ship within 1 to 2 business days. Bulk sizes of 5 lbs and up may need a little extra handling time before they leave the warehouse. Checkout runs through our secure Shopify store, so your payment details are never handled directly by us.
Where does this oil come from, and how is it made?
This oil is steam-distilled from Piper nigrum, the same plant that gives us table pepper, using peppercorns grown in India. Distillation pulls the aromatic oil away from the fruit while leaving piperine, the compound behind pepper's bite, in the plant material.
How can I check the purity of a batch?
Every batch is lab-tested before it ships, and the results are published on this site as a certificate of analysis. See the purity section above on this page for what that batch documentation actually covers.
